Pad Brapad is formed by six musicians with eclectics musical backgrounds (from jazz to electro to classical or indie rock), who all met Eastern Europe music through their roots, their travels or their musical meetings. Whether Gypsy, Klezmer or folk, that music has touched them by its wealth, its accessibility, its part of improvisation.
Since its creation in 2004, the band's approach has been to create an instrumental project that would develop original « modern » rearrangement of Eastern Europe music and wrap it up on stage.
For the first 3 years, the show takes several forms, and being close to the theater, the group signs several musical creations, including the Russian drama "The Mandate" by Nikolai Erdman.
The group releases its first EP in 2005 and its first album in 2007.
To the traditional gypsy instruments (violin / accordion / bratsch / doublebass / percussion), Pad Brapad adds groove-drums and the heat of « Old School » turntables, and offers an original show, mixing VJing, light-show and scenic surprises.
The musicians continue and narrow their work on musical creation, creating a unique sound for the band, blending Balkan Gypsy music and Urban musics of the West.
Pad Brapad releases a new EP in 2008 and works on the new show and the 2nd album by multiplying the residencies. A track is chosen in several compilations (Wagram, Believe ...), concerts grow in France and a first European tour is organized in 2009
The second album « SatuMare – Bristol » (distributed by Mosaic) is released in October 2009 in France and abroad (Germany, Austria, Benelux, Spain) from early 2010. To promote this album, several European tours are conducted during 2010.
Today located between Balkan Beat Box, The Herbaliser, Mahala Raï Banda and Socalled, Pad Brapad mixes Balkan Gypsy music, Hip-Hop, Rock and Electro and highlights the evolutionary, progressive and festive aspects of these musics to achieve their explosive « Balkan Groove » fusion, a unique Urban Gypsy sound in the current musical landscape.
With more than 250 concerts, from Paris greatest concert halls like « The Café de la Danse », « The New Morning » and « Le Divan du Monde », they have set fire to Warsaw, Praha, Vienna, Budapest or Berlin…
Pad Brapad combines the energy of the East with the beats of the West for a warm and festive vibe... A volcanic live that takes you far away!
"The most innovative group in the Paris Balkan-Galaxy, an electro-gypsy album that boils the dancefloor, one of my favorite this year."
